Anyone know of a farm where I can get tomoatoes in bulk for canning? I'm in Fairfield County but I'll drive since we just moved here , and we can explore our new state. I need about 50 lbs. thanks. |

I am in the Hartford area but I know a farm near me does wholesale for grocery stores, including larger quantities for residential use. I buy big boxes of seconds from them in late summer for sauce making. I don't know if they grow Romas though...however, if you want to ask their contact info is on their website: deercrestfarm.net I would go to the CT Dept. of Ag website and get the list of local farms near you and start calling. Any of them that grow Romas would likely be glad to sell you whatever you want. |

I was just picking some Romas from my backyard and thinking of canning. I dont have enough yet though. How about going to a local nursery/farm and asking them if their source has enough for you. I'm pretty sure they do. |

The website Department of Agriculture has good information about farms and markets for produce, they also have a link to the market trail and a calendar for available produce. Another great place to get info is Farmers Market Trail. This will give you info for all Connecticut farmers markets. |

Bishop's Orchards in Guilford usually sells crates of canning tomatoes. Stone Gardens Farms in Shelton does, too. ETA: I can't remember whether Stone Gardens has romas, specifically. Pretty sure Bishop's does. |

Funny this came up again... I was just hanging out with my 75yr old neighbor who had a fire pit in his backyard with a huge bucket filled with jars which were filled with cut tomatoes and basil in them. He covered them with 2 towels in case they explode. They went down to Author avenue in the Bronx to get the Tomatoes. Boxes of them. |

Nothing better than homemade sauce and free heat with firewood.

Was about to start a new thread but figured I do a search. So now that I got into canning stuff.. I did pickles and tomatoes from my backyard, I want to do more sauce but there's not enough in my backyard ... Question... My neighbor mentioned a place near Ikea (Long Wharf area) in New Haven... Do you guys know where exactly he's talking about? He didn't know the address and tried to give details but was sketchy. I tried GoogleMaps and cant find it. He said something about Terminal? Aside from that, does anyone else want to add some locations they sell bulk tomatoes? |
